Marissa Pareles

I am an NYU doctoral student in English and American Literature with 6+ years of tutoring experience. I have a BA in Comparative Literature from Yale, and received a perfect score on my own SATs.

I have written for and edited several admissions and test prep guides, including The Best 361 Colleges, The Best Business Schools, 12 Practice Tests for the AP, WordSmart, Cracking the SSAT & ISEE, and 11 Practice Tests for the SAT & PSAT.

I teach with warmth and a sense of joy, tailoring lessons and syllabi to each student's needs. I use all tools at my disposal, emphasizing reading and critical thinking, so that tutoring isn't just a quick fix but actually improves students' readiness for future challenges. 

My students see an average improvement of over 230 points on the SAT. Recent students have been accepted to Brown, Columbia, McGill, UVM, Sarah Lawrence, Hampshire, Occidental, and NYU Tisch.
